Last month at ON-U-TRAINING, we hosted our International Women’s Day strength training event, and what an incredible morning it was.
The studio was filled with women supporting women, lifting weights, celebrating strength, and proving that stepping outside your comfort zone can be one of the most empowering things you can do.
For many of the women who joined us, it was their first time lifting a barbell. And the reactions said it all .... surprise, excitement, pride, and sometimes disbelief.
“I can’t believe I just lifted that!”
We heard this again and again… and that’s exactly why we created this event.
Why More Women Should Start Strength Training
Too many women still believe that strength training isn’t for them ... but the reality is quite the opposite.
Despite the huge benefits of resistance training, studies show that women are still far less likely than men to lift weights regularly.
Key Facts About Women and Strength Training:
Only 20–30% of women include strength training in their routine
After age 30, muscle mass naturally declines (sarcopenia)
Women can lose 3–8% of muscle per decade without resistance training
Lower muscle mass can lead to a slower metabolism, reduced strength, and higher injury risk
👉 Strength training isn’t just about aesthetics, it’s about long-term health, confidence, and longevity.
The Benefits of Strength Training for Women
Building muscle is one of the most powerful things women can do for their overall health and wellbeing.
Here’s why muscle matters:
✔ Boosts metabolism and supports fat loss
✔ Improves bone density and reduces osteoporosis risk
✔ Supports hormonal balance
✔ Improves posture and reduces injury risk
✔ Increases energy levels and confidence
Muscle is metabolically active, meaning the more muscle you build, the more calories your body burns, even at rest.
In simple terms: muscle helps your body function better, feel stronger, and age well.
Overcoming the Fear of the Weights Area
Let’s be honest ... walking into the weights section of a gym can feel intimidating, especially if you’re new.
That’s exactly why we created this event: A safe, welcoming space for women to try strength training for the first time.
The transformation we saw in just one session was incredible.
Women who arrived feeling unsure and nervous left feeling:
Stronger
More confident
Proud of themselves
That moment when someone lifts their first barbell?
It’s powerful.
It’s often when they realise:👉 “I’m stronger than I thought.”
The Power of a Supportive Fitness Community
What made the day truly special wasn’t just the training ... it was the community.
Women:
Cheering each other on
Encouraging every lift
Celebrating every small win
Strength training doesn’t have to be a solo journey.
In the right environment, it becomes something much bigger, a support system that builds both physical and mental strength.
That’s exactly what we’re building at ON-U-TRAINING.

Thank You to Our Incredible Community
